  • The general answer is yes. We would like to know this is not your first backcountry expedition. We expect you to have your own personal gear and some experience with backpacking and traveling in the backcountry. You do not need to be a well seasoned camper, but unless it is specified as a ‘Beginner Friendly’ trip, we want to know this is not your first trip in the outdoors hiking and camping.

Please contact us if you have any questions about your experience level- we are happy to talk about this together.

  • These are full participation trips. We are not a luxury guiding service. You will be carrying your own gear plus some group gear and food, setting up your tent, cooking with others on a rotation for meals and supporting the group however is necessary.

We are a backcountry expedition organization that sees the value in teaching others to connect with Nature by gaining skills and competency in backpacking, to thrive while living in the outdoors and to leave inspired to do more backpacking trips.

These trips are for people who love backpacking and want to go to amazing locations with like minded people, thriving in a backcountry community.

  • Wonderful, we are so glad you joined! This is one of the reasons our trips are special. We create awesome communities for solo hikers seeking a community to backpack and camp with.

  • We will decide this based on the specific expedition, group size and gear.

Camping expeditions: If people want to camp solo they are welcome to carry their own tent, as long as they don’t mind the extra weight. Otherwise we will divide up and share tents based on group size.

Inn to Inn- these are typically shared double rooms or dorm style rooms with multiple beds. If you’d like to have your own room, we can try to arrange for that depending on the expedition location and availability for an additional fee.

Please see the specific expedition for sleeping arrangement details.

  • We do our best to accommodate your dietary restrictions. That is easier in some locations and trip types than others.

Generally, we can accommodate vegetarian and dairy free diets quite easily.

Gluten free and vegan restrictions are more challenging and may require you bringing some supplements that you like in the backcountry to add more nutrition to your meals.

  • Once you have a received a ‘trip confirmed’ email from us, go ahead and book your flights. Please wait until you receive this confirmation from us.

We always recommend purchasing flight insurance.

  • Yes, absolutely. We require proof of travel medical insurance for you to participate on our expeditions. We recommend you get a quote from our umbrella organization Finisterra Travel.

  • This will depend on your nationality and where you are going. Please see the FAQ’s for the specific expedition for VISA and permit information.

  • This depends on the location of your expedition. It is best to see your medical advisors regarding vaccinations for the location you will be traveling to.

  • Although we are a proud Canadian company we need to use a reliable world wide currency, such as the US dollar, because our trips, vendors and clients are international.
