We will be in the Zagori region, a UNESCO word heritage site, traveling from ancient stone village to stone village. It is green, filled with flowers and set in a stunning landscape.

For the hikers there are incredible canyons and high mountain passes. The hiking is considered easy to moderate being 2-5 hours/day on small dirt trails or stone paths. There will be an option to separate from the group for 2 days to explore a high mountainous region and stay in a local mountain-top Refugio.

Highlights for all participants include:

• Explore the Zagori, Epirus, region. A Greek region so rich in culture and idyllic landscape that it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in September 2023. Zagori has 46 traditional stone-built villages. We will visit at least 5 of them.

• Vikos Gorge- The Guinness Book of Records lists Vikos as the world’s “deepest relative to its width” gorge. The gorge spans 32 km (20 mi), with walls ranging from 120 to 1,350 meters in height and a width that varies from 2,500 meters to just a few meters.

• Visit the 15th century Monastery of Saint Paraskevi, literally hanging over the cliffs of Vikos Gorge.

• Visit the ancient stone bridges of Kipi, an architectural marvel

• Walk the famous 18th century stone staircase of Vradeto, with 1100 steps that took 20 years to build. Vradeto is the "highest" village of Zagori with this staircase being the only connection to other villages until the 1970’s.

The villages are made up of winding stone paths (in some no cars can enter), offering a quaint and relaxed atmosphere. The local guesthouses are clean, friendly and full of character. We'll be eating in the local tavernas enjoying all the delights of the Mediterranean diet!
